Kids can experience the same mental and emotional problems that adults do. These troubles create challenges not only for the child, but can disrupt the entire family dynamic. Whether these concerns come on gradually, or are the result of a larger issue, such as divorce, blended family dynamics, or abuse, there are interventions that can help. Often these issues require attention and are not simply outgrown. Children shouldn't be subjected to a wait-and-see mentality.
I have over fifteen years experience working with kids and their families to provide parenting education and child-friendly therapy practices. I work with clients 10+ on issues such as anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, and trauma. I'm trained in Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, a modality used specifically for addressing trauma in minor clients.
Although parents are covering the cost of therapy for their teen or adolescent, the child is ultimately my client and my focus is on building their trust. This means that while I will involve parents in therapy, I do allow the minor to mostly determine what they want shared with their parent.
